You need to measure the width and length at the widest points of the room, being careful to measure in to any alcoves or drop backs, and in to any door ways. This will provide you with two measurements, length and width. Add 10cm to each of your measurements. Carpets typically come in 4 metre and 5 metre widths (some, although not many, are in widths of 1 to 5 metres). To work out the square metres that you will need, round either the width or the length up to 4m or 5m and then multiply by the remaining dimension. If your room is larger than 5m in both width and length then we will need to put a join in the carpet but we can discuss that with you.

i.e. your room is 3.8m x 3.4m, in this case the 3.8m will become 4m and the 3.4m will become 3.50m. When multiplied that provides you with 14.00 square metres.

Measuring for Vinyl is exactly the same except vinyl comes in 2m 3m & 4m widths. You also need to take in to account the pattern direction on a vinyl (if it has one) i.e. a wood plank effect, which way would you prefer the planks to run.

For a very modest fee we can remove and dispose of your old carpet so you don’t have to. This is an optional service and you can of course remove and dispose of your own carpet yourself.

All small items need to be removed but if you have a piece of furniture that can’t be moved out of the room then we can advise the best course of action and most of the time can fit the carpet and move the piece of furniture around as needed. We live in the real world and need to be sensible.

If you are not able to move heavy furniture then for a small charge our fitters can help you move furniture out of the room for fitting and then back in again once the job is done. So don’t injure yourself trying to move something that is too heavy for you.
